Link Exchanges

How many of us have email everyday to exchange links with someone and how many actually exchange links?

Link exchanges are a great resource of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) providing your linking to a reliable site and that you are getting a link back. Think of links as votes for your site, and the Page Rank (PR) as the strength of that vote. So a link from a site that has a PR6 is going to benefit your site more than a link from a site that has a PR2.

The subject of your linking site must be the same. A site selling garden products should not be link to a site selling software. Why?

When the search engine bots crawl through your site, they pick up keywords and other pieces of code to build a picture of what the website is about. Then it looks for links (votes) for both inbound and outbound. If the bots find links not associated with the subject of the site this goes as a mark against the site.

When you send the HTML link code to your link partner, don’t forget to use keywords in the link text.

Word Frequency in SEO

March 19th, 2009

Does it matter? is it worth doing?

A few years ago I would have said yes but now im not sure.   I got a site to top of Google about a year ago now and it is full of keywords which tried to space 1:20 and 1:30.  A few result lower another one of my sites is there but i have to admit I have not put as much effort in to it and nowhere near as many keywords.

So why? Personally I believe that word frequency doesn’t matter, as long as you target your keywords to each page, the frequency of the word does not matter.

Or am I wrong?

March 16th, 2009

How many times have you been to a website and the links read  “click here”.  Ok there might have been a few keywords before that to tell you where its going but to a crawling search engine “click here” means nothing.

Use keywords in your links not “click here” or “here” and don’t forget your title tags <a title=”title goes here” .

Loads of visitors no sales?

March 16th, 2009

Have you found your web traffic analysis say your getting loads of visits but your not getting the sales?

Too often this happens because yes your getting visits but is it what the user is searching for. Some people, when search for a product, will click on the first site at the top of the search engine and if what they see is not what their looking for they will click back and try another site. These all important pages are called landing pages.
Many of us would be glad of people landing on our front pages but if your selling many products of different categories you many want to think about optimising the landing page of your product/category.

Search Engine Optimisation is more than just get your page to top of the search engines, its about getting the RIGHT pages to the top of the search engine.
